Description
Amenorrhoea (the absence of
monthly periods) tests are performed in order to determine the reason of this
condition. Women begin their menstrual cycle when they are 12-14 years old, and
it lasts until they are 50-55 years old. (menopause). The menstruation of a
woman who is pregnant does not occur during her pregnancy. Amenorrhea can occur
at any stage of a woman's life and indicate the presence of an underlying
medical condition.

It is possible that in addition to
the absence of periods, you may notice other symptoms, such as:
Milky nipple discharge
Hair loss
Headache
Vision changes
Excess facial hair
Pelvic pain

Tests Parameter:
FSH and LH: to rule out
hypogonadism due to hypothalamic or pituitary dysfunction and hypergonadotropic
state.eg premature ovarian failure. Increased LH/FSH ratio is suggestive of
PCOS
Prolactin: Hyperprolactinemia is
one of the most common entities associated with chronic anovulation.
TSH: to rule out hypothyroidism,
as it may lead to secondary hyperprolactinemia.
Estradiol E2: Estrogen is a
product of granulosa cells and reflects follicular activity.
Sample Collection Instruction:
4 ml. (2 ml. Minimum) Serum from 1
SST (Red top with no additive). Separate serum from cells within 1 hour of
collection.
Specify age, sex & day of
menstrual cycle on test requisition form. Preferred sampling time - Day 2/3 of
menstrual cycle.
